NCCA Trophy: Dorset’s Rob Pack puts Herefordshire into a skid

FIVE wickets for Bournemouth spinner Rob Pack gave Dorset a thrilling nine-time NCCA Trophy win over Herefordshire.

Pack was in sensational form this season and outstanding numbers from 5-20 brought his overall record from 30 overs to 9-98.

His scalps ensured that Dorset scored a second Group Two win after a last ball thriller in Cornwall and a loss to Wiltshire.

Dorset won the throw, hitting first on a Brockhampton field which provided a good bat-to-ball battle, building to 53-0 before losing Oli Soames to Barney Morgan.

Morgan hit the daily best of 3:23 when he wiped Greg Willows, 6, and Felix Organ – but not before Organ had built a brilliant 51, including three sixes and four limits.

Former Worcestershire opening hitter Matt Pardoe (3-22) then balanced himself with the best daily numbers of his own.

However, Bournemouth’s Simon Woodruff (63 no) struck aggressively late, crashing six limits and four maxima to bring Dorset to a competitive 194-8.

Pardoe and Ben Chapman-Lilley (33) brought the Bulls to an aviator in response and led the hosts to 92-0.

But the introduction of Pack changed the game when he removed Pardoe for 58 and broke the top order, which also made Worcestershire’s Zain Ul Hassan, 8, among his five.

Josh Digby (1-34) got rid of Chapman-Lilley when the first six wickets to spin fell.

Morgan, 22, and Ian Bullock, 24, threatened to bring the Bulls home with a quiet score of 42, leaving them 15 runs to go.

But when Morgan Woodruff (2-40) died, a nervous Dorset quickly took the last two wickets, Woodruff and debutant Harry Petrie (1-46) with the final layoffs.

Dorset will next play Devon in NCCA Trophy action at Dorchester Rec on Sunday (11am).
