THE SEARCH is looking for new judges for the Herefordshire Bench.
The Staffordshire and West Mercia Advisory Committee is seeking applications from individuals interested in becoming judges at the Herefordshire Bench, where new adult criminal justice judges are needed.
These are volunteer positions; You don’t need legal training or formal qualifications to become a judge, and we are seeking applications from across the county and from every part of the community. Judges are not paid (although some allowances can be claimed) and those who are successfully appointed must attend training and sit in court for at least 13 days a year – this is a minimum requirement.
Anyone between the ages of 18 and 65 can apply. Applications are particularly welcome from members of black and minority ethnic communities, those under the age of 50, those who have paid
Employment and people with a disability who, either unaided or with reasonable adjustments, are able to perform the full range of judge’s duties.

Applications for the adult criminal court open on August 1, 2021 and close on September 10, with interviews taking place later in the year. Before filing an application, at least one observation visit must be made to a local court, to the local judge [rather than a District Judge] sit, and each visit should last at least half a day.
