A fiancé, who melted hearts with his secret month-long marriage proposal to his girlfriend, was slain by Covid just one day before the wedding.

Edi Okoro, 32, and Cally Read, 30, had to cancel their wedding ceremony shortly before the event after Mr Okoro tested positive for the coronavirus.

“Absolutely disheartening to have to cancel our wedding the day before because of a positive Covid test,” said the couple.

“After months of preparation and like so many others who had to postpone due to our good friend Covid, we had to cancel our wedding ceremony.

“We are absolutely devastated, not just for ourselves but for our family, friends, venues and suppliers as well.”

The couple shared the devastating news that came after four quick side tests and a confirmed laboratory result that Mr. Okoro was suffering from Covid-19.

“In the face of this pandemic, it was so difficult to have looked forward to such a significant event and to have it canceled immediately, which only adds to the already bitter taste.” They said.

Mr. Okoro and Ms. Read said they were still grateful that they managed to legally get married earlier in the week leading up to the ceremony.

The couple said they were “okay” and were about to postpone the wedding.

Mr Okoro, who lives in Herefordshire, England, was commended in 2019 for his elaborate proposal to his current wife, Mrs Read, after buying a diamond ring but refusing to rush it.

While waiting for the right moment to ask the question, Mr. Okoro took daring photos of the ring within sight of his unsuspecting partner.

“Those who have been through this (and those who will soon find out) want to suggest you in a way that appeals to you as a person and a couple,” he told Daily Mail Australia at the time.

“Some are planning a flash mob, a fancy meal, or even arranging a marriage sign. I couldn’t because “Edi doesn’t plan” … I’m a spontaneous improviser. ‘

But things quickly escalated to the point where Edi put the ring in her jewelry box for two days without her knowledge and put it in her hand while she was sleeping

Hoping that the moment would “come”, Mr. Okoro began to document the elaborate scheme in a series of hilarious photos over a period of four weeks.

The first time he photographed with the ring was when she turned her back on her or was buying something in a store.

“The idea was to take so many photos in more daring scenarios until I found the perfect moment to propose or until I was caught and then I would propose,” he said.
