From Maylords Loos to Libraries, What Will Reopen Today in Herefordshire?

Herefordshire health chiefs advise caution as lockdown restrictions in the county are eased.

A number of well-known retailers and popular independent businesses reopen today (April 12) in Hereford and the market towns.

Maylord Orchards’ toilets are also available to buyers.

Hereford, Leominster and Ross-on-Wye libraries will open from April 12th for browsing, book selection and pre-booked computer sessions. The Ledbury Library will reopen the following Monday (April 19th). The library click-and-collect services will continue in the meantime. Preparations are being made to reopen the remaining libraries in May. Customers are required to wear face covering when visiting the library unless otherwise exempted.

The council’s remaining cultural services are reopening in a cautious, COVID-safe manner. From April 13th, the Herefordshire Archive and Records Center’s search room will be open for pre-booked sessions. The shop of the Black and White House Museum will also reopen on April 13th. The council is preparing the reopening of museums according to step 3 of the government’s “Roadmap out of Lockdown” (not before May 17th).

Other changes in Step 2 include:

  • The number of nursing home visitors can increase to two per resident (according to individual nursing home instructions);
  • Weddings can take place with up to 15 participants.
  • Funerals can continue with up to 30 mourners.
  • Pubs and restaurants will be opened for outdoor service. and
  • Outdoor attractions such as farm parks and standalone accommodation such as campsites and vacation rentals will also reopen unless interior features are shared with other households.

Dr. Rebecca Howell-Jones, Acting Director of Public Health for Herefordshire said:

“Thank you to everyone who has played your part and followed the instructions of the government. We are now able to further relax lockdown restrictions in the county. Your actions, the availability of regular rapid COVID-19 tests, and the continued adoption of vaccinations have all played a key role in lowering case rates to allow restrictions to be gradually lifted.

“We ask you to continue to work from home if possible and also to minimize domestic travel. Many people in Herefordshire have looked forward to seeing more family and friends and resuming some of the activities they enjoy. For your health and that of your family and friends, please do so safely. The rules for social contact are still in place. Outdoor socializing is limited to 6 people or two households, and you are not allowed to socialize indoors unless it is done with your household or support bubble. ”
