Herefordshire’s latest Covid-19 statistics have almost doubled in the county

There has been a significant increase in the number of cases of Covid-19 reported in Herefordshire today.

However, there appears to be an issue with reporting cumulative cases as the pandemic progresses.

The government’s statistics website is broken down into the local government section.

407 new cases have been reported in Herefordshire in the 24 hours to 5pm today. That’s an 88 percent increase from the 216 reported at the same time Monday

The website says the cumulative total over the past 23 months is 38,547, but that’s also the number reported for Monday 31 January.

Assuming this is an error, adding 407 to 38,547 brings the county total to 38,954.

The problems with the cumulative total can be caused by a new way of counting. As of yesterday, a second or third infection by the same person will be counted as a new infection, whereas previously it was added to the daily counts but not to the totals.

One death of someone who has tested positive for Covid-19 has been reported in the latest 28 deaths in Herefordshire today.

This brings the total number of these deaths to 342.
