Monty Dons Adriatic Gardens: Herefordshire gardeners in Europe

HEREFORDSHIRE TV gardener Monty Don returns to our screens tonight with a new series.

The presenter, who presents BBC Two’s Gardeners’ World from Longmeadow near Leominster, filmed in Europe.

The new three-part series, which begins tonight at 8 p.m. on BBC Two, follows Don, 66, along the Adriatic coast, the sea that separates the Italian peninsula from the Balkans.

Starting in Venice tonight, Don will travel along the Adriatic coast through Croatia, Corfu and mainland Greece over the course of the series and end in a very personal garden on the country’s Hydra island.

“When you think of Venice, the first thing you might think about is gardens,” said TV writers from the Press Association.

“In this new series, however, Monty Don is traveling Europe to discover the influence of the Venetians on the outdoors, from their own town on the tip of the Adriatic coast to Croatia and Greece.

“On the way he learns how public and private gardens have been shaped by history, culture and climate change.

“He starts in Venice itself, where he visits some of the green spaces that are often hidden from view by high walls.”
