Storm Eunice: garage speaks out after ‘puddle’ closes Herefordshire main road

A HEREFORDSHIRE garage owner has spoken out after a ‘puddle’ saw a main road closed.

The A4110 between the A4113 (Leintwardine) and the Walford turn off (Adforton) was closed last night (February 18) due to flooding, Herefordshire Council said, with diversions in place.

But, local business owner Alex Griffiths, of Griffiths Garage in Leintwardine, questioned the closure, saying the flood is little more than a puddle, and criticized Herefordshire Council for potentially damaging trade by turning cars away from the village.

“We are a local business that relies on our customers being able to get to us,” said Alex.

“The disruption from Storm Eunice yesterday was difficult but couldn’t be helped. It is frustrating that we’re now being disrupted by Herefordshire Council leaving our road closed over a puddle.

“It’s pretty surreal, especially given there’s an easy diversion around this terrifying puddle via Walford.

“They’ve made it worse by shouting about this closure online this morning, spreading it across the county and ensuring drivers steer clear for days to come.”

Alex also shared another picture, taken at Jay Lane in Leintwardine, this afternoon.

Despite being completely underwater after the river Clun broke its banks, Jay Lane is not currently closed, Alex said.
