The Herefordshire supervisor fell into the ditch with the pickup truck after visiting a pub

A full-time attendant threw his car in a ditch in Herefordshire after “overdoing it” in the pub, a court heard.

Police were called to Tyberton near Peterchurch when a Mitsubishi L200 pickup truck crashed in a ditch. This was announced by the Hereford District Court to the Shafquat Reaz Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The officers checked the vehicle and found that it belonged to Darren Palmer, 41. When they visited his house, he admitted driving alcohol and crashing his car.

After he was arrested and taken to Hereford Police Station following the April 30 crash, he was found to have 74 micrograms of alcohol in 100 milliliters of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Defense attorney Chris Read said Palmer, of Wellbrookside, Peterchurch, had a previous good character.

He said Palmer had to quit his job to care for his disabled sister at the onset of the coronavirus pandemic and that his mother’s health has deteriorated since then.

That put a strain on his marriage with the ongoing divorce proceedings.

Mr Read said Palmer was offered aftercare and someone offered to look after his mother and sister when he went to the pub.

OTHER NEWS:

But Palmer “did it” and “one drink became two, too many”.

Then he lost control of his pickup and fell into a ditch, but no other vehicles were involved.

After Palmer pleaded guilty to once drinking alcohol, he was banned from driving in Hereford Magistrates Court for 18 months on May 19.

He was also ordered to pay a £ 271 fine, £ 135 in costs and a £ 34 sacrificial surcharge.
