Police helicopter chasing burglars in Herefordshire

A POLICE helicopter was used to track down two intruders who were hiding in a ditch after stealing a home in Herefordshire.

West Mercia police on Wednesday warned of two suspicious men in their twenties seen in the driveway to a house near Ledbury and urged the public to be vigilant.

The same couple were seen again nearby, and after a dog and helicopter chase, the men were found in a ditch.

Officers received a call about the men at 3:50 p.m. Wednesday after they were first seen in a Ford Focus on Falcon Lane off the A438 near Ledbury.

Someone reported that one of the men knocked on the back door of a Little Tarrington estate and asked again for directions.

Police conducted an area search and said they found the car. After leaving, the car was stopped, but then two men ran away.

After a search with a police dog and a helicopter, the two men were found hidden in a trench.

“Evidence believed to be stolen property was found in the vehicle, so both men were arrested at the time,” said PCSO Christina Howard.

“Unfortunately, it has since emerged that some of the items found belonged to a property in Little Tarrington.

“This vehicle has been seen behaving suspiciously several times across the county and while it is never good news to hear of a break-in, it is a great result that we have been able to arrest these two men and stop their insults.
